Journal your IC Markets MT5 trades automatically
If you trade with IC Markets on MetaTrader 5 for Windows, AI Trading Journal can save every closed trade in your own journal on your PC (with an optional copy in your own Notion workspace) about every 5 minutes. It reads your IC Markets terminal on your PC. It does not connect to IC Markets, so you never give anyone your IC Markets login.
What IC Markets says about MT5
Facts below are from IC Markets's own pages (https://www.icmarkets.com/global/en/forex-trading-platform-metatrader/metatrader-5), checked on 8 October 2026. Offers change, so check the broker's site for the latest. We are not affiliated with IC Markets, and nothing here is a recommendation of it.
- Its MT5 page describes MetaTrader 5 as one platform for forex, stocks, indices, bonds, cryptocurrencies and commodity CFDs.
- It lists over 2,100 stock CFDs from the ASX, NYSE and NASDAQ on MT5.
- It says traders can hedge positions because there is no first-in-first-out (FIFO) rule.
- It lists MT5 for Windows, with browser and mobile access, and supports Expert Advisors written in MQL5.
What that means for your journal
A platform that spans forex, indices, stock CFDs and crypto CFDs makes it easy to spread across markets without noticing which ones pay. A journal that groups results by asset class answers that quickly.
Journaling tips for IC Markets accounts
- Tag trades by asset class (forex, index, stock CFD, crypto) and compare average net result for each.
- Stock CFDs follow exchange hours; note the session and the symbol's contract size.
- If you use hedging, review each position separately. The app records one row per closed position.
- Tag trades that an Expert Advisor opened, since the app does not record the EA's magic number.
How to set it up
- Install the MT5 terminal on your Windows PC and log in to your IC Markets account.
- Install AI Trading Journal, click Add Account and pick your logged-in account. It finds your terminal and account.
- Click Create my journal. The app imports your whole history and keeps it up to date about every 5 minutes.
- Optional: click Connect Notion to keep a copy of the journal in your own Notion workspace.
What each journal entry contains
For every closed position: symbol, direction, volume, open and close time, entry and exit price, stop loss, take profit and profit or loss, plus your own setup, emotion, rating, tags, notes and screenshots, which a sync never overwrites. A daily row shows the day's result, win rate and drawdown.
A weekly review for your IC Markets trades
- Which symbols made or lost money this week?
- Which session were most of the losses taken in?
- Did lot size stay inside your plan?
- How many trades would you not take again?
The weekly trading review checklist turns these into a 20-minute routine, and win rate, profit factor and expectancy explained shows how to read the numbers.
Privacy and cost compared with a cloud journal
| Question | Cloud journal | AI Trading Journal |
|---|---|---|
| Where do your trades live? | On the vendor's servers | On your own PC; they do not pass through our servers |
| Does it need your broker login? | Many connect with account login and investor password, or an Expert Advisor that sends data out | No. It reads your own logged-in MT5 terminal on your PC |
| What if you stop paying? | Access and history can end with the subscription | Your Notion journal stays yours |
| Can it place trades? | Read-only access is typical, but you are trusting the vendor | It is read-only by design; it never places, changes or closes a trade |
An honest note on privacy. Notion is itself a cloud service, so your trades do sit on Notion's servers, in your own workspace, under your own account and token. What AI Trading Journal removes is the extra middleman: there is no separate journal vendor holding your trades and no broker login sent to a website. No tool is risk-free, so protect your accounts, including Notion if you connect it, with a strong password and two-step verification.
Limits to know
- Windows and MetaTrader 5 desktop only.

More from IC's MT5 page (read 8 October 2026)
- On its own site the broker now presents itself as IC, and its MT5 page says MetaTrader 5 is available on both of its account types, Raw Pricing and Standard.
- It says there is no minimum order distance, and that the freeze level is 0, so stop orders can be placed at any level.
- It says traders can place trades as small as one micro lot (0.01), and that the MT5 client terminal requires Windows 7 or higher, with a Mac option also mentioned.
Comparing Raw Pricing and Standard with your own numbers
With two account types on offer, the useful question is which one costs you less in practice. The honest way to answer it is from your own history, after every cost. A Raw-style account usually has a tighter spread and a separate commission, while a Standard-style account usually builds the cost into the spread, so neither figure alone is fair. Tag each trade with its account type, record the net result (profit plus commission plus swap), and compare the average net result per lot on the same instruments over the same weeks. The made-up example below shows the layout, not real IC pricing:
| Account | Trades | Average lots | Net result | Net per lot |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Raw Pricing (hypothetical) | 40 | 0.50 | +$180 | +$9.0 |
| Standard (hypothetical) | 38 | 0.50 | +$152 | +$8.0 |
Only your own data can tell you whether a gap like that is real or just the noise of a few weeks. See the profit and loss calculator for checking a single trade's arithmetic.
Hedging, scalping and the journal
The page says there is no FIFO rule, so opposite positions on one symbol are possible. If you use that freedom, record why you hold both sides, because an accidental hedge pays costs twice. Short-term traders should also watch trade counts: when entries are cheap to place, it is easy to take more than the plan allows. Pair the account-type tag with a daily count so you can see both. The how many trades per day guide shows how.
Spreading across asset classes
| Asset class | What to compare in your journal |
|---|---|
| Forex | Win rate and average loss by pair and session |
| Indices | Results in the first hour after the cash open versus the rest |
| Stock CFDs | Holding time and overnight financing |
| Crypto CFDs | Weekend trades and size relative to volatility |
If you trade several, group by asset class first and by symbol second, which tells you quickly which market is paying you. See the indices and crypto CFD journal guides.
