Journal your Pepperstone MT5 trades automatically
If you trade with Pepperstone on MetaTrader 5 for Windows, AI Trading Journal can save every closed trade in your own journal on your PC (with an optional copy in your own Notion workspace) about every 5 minutes. It reads your Pepperstone terminal on your PC. It does not connect to Pepperstone, so you never give anyone your Pepperstone login.
What Pepperstone says about MT5
Facts below are from Pepperstone's own pages (https://pepperstone.com/en/trading-platforms/metatrader-5/), checked on 8 October 2026. Offers change, so check the broker's site for the latest. We are not affiliated with Pepperstone, and nothing here is a recommendation of it.
- Its MT5 page lists a desktop version for Windows, a web version, and Android and iOS apps.
- It lists 1,350+ instruments on MT5, including 93 margin forex pairs, 26 index CFDs, 40 commodity CFDs and 31 cryptocurrency CFDs.
- It lists support for Expert Advisors and backtesting, and historical data.
What that means for your journal
A broker with this many instruments invites trading across forex, indices, commodities and crypto CFDs. That is exactly when a journal pays off: you can see which markets help your results and which cost you.
Journaling tips for Pepperstone accounts
- Tag each trade by asset class (forex, index CFD, commodity, crypto CFD) so you can compare results by market.
- Crypto CFDs can trade outside forex hours; note the session of each trade.
- Check each symbol's contract size in the MT5 Specification before you size it.
How to set it up
- Install the MT5 terminal on your Windows PC and log in to your Pepperstone account.
- Install AI Trading Journal, click Add Account and pick your logged-in account. It finds your terminal and account.
- Click Create my journal. The app imports your whole history and keeps it up to date about every 5 minutes.
- Optional: click Connect Notion to keep a copy of the journal in your own Notion workspace.
What each journal entry contains
For every closed position: symbol, direction, volume, open and close time, entry and exit price, stop loss, take profit and profit or loss, plus your own setup, emotion, rating, tags, notes and screenshots, which a sync never overwrites. A daily row shows the day's result, win rate and drawdown.
A weekly review for your Pepperstone trades
- Which symbols made or lost money this week?
- Which session were most of the losses taken in?
- Did lot size stay inside your plan?
- How many trades would you not take again?
The weekly trading review checklist turns these into a 20-minute routine, and win rate, profit factor and expectancy explained shows how to read the numbers.
Privacy and cost compared with a cloud journal
| Question | Cloud journal | AI Trading Journal |
|---|---|---|
| Where do your trades live? | On the vendor's servers | On your own PC; they do not pass through our servers |
| Does it need your broker login? | Many connect with account login and investor password, or an Expert Advisor that sends data out | No. It reads your own logged-in MT5 terminal on your PC |
| What if you stop paying? | Access and history can end with the subscription | Your Notion journal stays yours |
| Can it place trades? | Read-only access is typical, but you are trusting the vendor | It is read-only by design; it never places, changes or closes a trade |
An honest note on privacy. Notion is itself a cloud service, so your trades do sit on Notion's servers, in your own workspace, under your own account and token. What AI Trading Journal removes is the extra middleman: there is no separate journal vendor holding your trades and no broker login sent to a website. No tool is risk-free, so protect your accounts, including Notion if you connect it, with a strong password and two-step verification.

More from Pepperstone's platforms page (read 8 October 2026)
- Its platforms page lists MT5 alongside TradingView, MT4 and cTrader, and describes MT5 as offering more markets, more order types and more features than MT4.
- Its comparison table lists 1,350+ instruments and counts of 93 margin forex pairs, 26 index CFDs, 40 commodity CFDs and 31 cryptocurrency CFDs across its offering. Counts change, so check the page for the current numbers.
- It lists a free TradingView subscription for eligible clients, subject to criteria, and a set of MetaTrader tools including MetaTrader Smart Trader.
Four platforms, one journal
With MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView on offer, it is easy to place a trade on a platform the app does not read. The app journals MetaTrader 5 on Windows only, so decide which platform is your main one, and either keep your journaled trading there or keep a separate record for the others. If you chart on TradingView and trade on MT5, that is fine: the trade is still recorded from MT5. If you trade on cTrader, it will not appear in this journal.
A weekly review by asset class
When one platform covers forex, indices, commodities and crypto CFDs, an asset-class view is often the most revealing one. Group your week's trades by class and compare these:
| Asset class | Hypothetical week | Question |
|---|---|---|
| Forex pairs | 14 trades, +$96 | Is your edge in the majors or the crosses? |
| Index CFDs | 6 trades, -$140 | Do you trade the open, and does it pay? |
| Commodity CFDs | 5 trades, +$62 | Was size consistent with gold's range? |
| Crypto CFDs | 3 trades, -$85 | Weekend trades and size relative to volatility? |
The numbers are made up; the layout is what matters. If one class loses repeatedly, the answer may be to size it differently or drop it for a while. The guides to indices, gold and crypto CFD journaling cover what to record for each.
Expert Advisors and backtesting
The page lists support for EAs, backtesting and historical data on MT5. If you backtest and then trade live, compare the two honestly. The Notion backtesting template shows how to log the tests so that live results can be set beside them.
