Journal your FundingPips MT5 trades automatically
If your FundingPips account runs on MetaTrader 5 for Windows, AI Trading Journal can save every closed trade in your own journal on your PC (with an optional copy in your own Notion workspace) about every 5 minutes. It reads the MT5 terminal on your PC and does not connect to FundingPips, so you never give anyone your FundingPips login.
What FundingPips says about MT5
Facts below are from FundingPips's own pages (https://fundingpips.com/blog/fundingpips-vs-ftmo), checked on 8 October 2026. Offers change, so check the firm's site for the latest. We are not affiliated with FundingPips, and nothing here is a recommendation of it.
- Its comparison page lists MT5, cTrader and Match-Trader as its platforms.
- Its free-trial pages say the trial runs on MT5 on a dedicated server named FundingPips-Trial.
- Its help centre says each free-trial phase expires 14 calendar days after activation.
- It says its swap-free add-on is limited to MT5.
What that means for your journal
Different models, a free trial and funded accounts can all run on MT5 under one name. Each is a separate MT5 account with its own history, so each belongs in its own journal database, labelled with the model and the date you copied its limits.
Journaling tips for FundingPips accounts
- Keep the free trial, each challenge and each funded account in separate databases.
- Write the model name and its daily and maximum loss limits in the Notes for the account, copied from your dashboard on the day you start.
- Trial phases expire after a fixed period; keep your notes before they end.
Treat the 14-day free trial as a rehearsal, not a scoreboard
FundingPips says its free-trial phases run on an MT5 server named FundingPips-Trial and expire 14 calendar days after activation. A fixed clock is useful for a journal, because it forces a plan: decide in advance what you want to learn in those two weeks, and write it in the first entry.
- Days 1 to 3: trade your normal size and record only the facts: setup, emotion and whether you followed your plan. Do not try to hit a target yet.
- Days 4 to 9: look for the pattern in your own entries: the symbol or session where you take most of your losses, and the tag that appears on your best trades.
- Days 10 to 14: change one thing only and see whether the numbers move. Changing three things at once tells you nothing.
Before the phase expires, export the Excel report and copy your notes. The journal itself is a file on your PC and stays there, but if you can no longer log in to the trial account, the app has nothing new to read from it.
The swap-free add-on and what your journal shows
FundingPips says its swap-free add-on is limited to MT5. Whether an account is charged swap is decided by the account, not by the journal, which simply records the profit, commission and swap that MetaTrader 5 reports for each closed position. If you use the add-on, look at your own history after an overnight trade and check whether a swap amount appears. The pages MT5 swap explained and swap-free accounts explained show where to look.
A naming scheme for a trial, a challenge and a funded account
| Account | Database name | First line of Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free trial | FP trial 2026-10 | Trial, expires 14 days after activation |
| Challenge | FP challenge 2026-10 | Model name and the date its limits were copied |
| Funded | FP funded 2026-11 | Date funded, limits as shown in the dashboard |
The names are only suggestions. What matters is that the trial, each challenge and each funded account never share a database, so a lucky trial week cannot flatter a real result.
A quick trust check (8 October 2026)
When we looked, Trustpilot showed FundingPips with a TrustScore of 4.5 from 70,182 reviews. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews, reviews are self-selected, and the firm has a paid Trustpilot business subscription, so treat the score as one signal only. In our searches we did not find a warning naming FundingPips on the regulators' public lists we searched. Prop firms are not regulated like brokers in most countries, so a missing warning is not proof of safety.
Some countries publish their own warning lists (for example, India's RBI alert list for forex). Check yours, read the firm's terms and the legal entity you would contract with, and never pay more in fees than you can afford to lose. We do not recommend any firm.
Record FundingPips's rules in its own words, with the date
Prop firms define their limits in different ways: whether the daily loss is measured from the start-of-day balance or equity, whether the maximum loss is static or trails your profit, and when each resets. Even one firm's pages can describe its models differently, and firms change their rules. So copy the exact limits and definitions for your account from your own dashboard into the Notes for that account, with the date. We do not state any firm's numbers here, because they change and sometimes conflict.
Use the prop firm drawdown calculator and the prop firm risk calculator with your firm's own figures, and read prop firm drawdown rules explained. For logging in, see the prop firm MT5 login guide.
How to set it up
- Install the MT5 terminal on your Windows PC and log in to your FundingPips account.
- Install AI Trading Journal, click Add Account and pick your logged-in account. It finds your terminal and account.
- Click Create my journal. The app imports your whole history and keeps it up to date about every 5 minutes.
- Optional: click Connect Notion to keep a copy of the journal in your own Notion workspace.
What each journal entry contains
For every closed position: symbol, direction, volume, open and close time, entry and exit price, stop loss, take profit and profit or loss, plus your own setup, emotion, rating, tags, notes and screenshots, which a sync never overwrites. A daily row shows the day's result, win rate and drawdown.
A weekly review for your FundingPips trades
- Did I follow the plan I wrote on day one of the trial?
- Which symbol or session produced most of my losses?
- What single change did I test, and did the numbers move?
- Would I take the same trades again with real fees on the line?
The weekly trading review checklist turns these into a 20-minute routine, and win rate, profit factor and expectancy explained shows how to read the numbers.
Privacy and cost compared with a cloud journal
| Question | Cloud journal | AI Trading Journal |
|---|---|---|
| Where do your trades live? | On the vendor's servers | On your own PC; they do not pass through our servers |
| Does it need your broker login? | Many connect with account login and investor password, or an Expert Advisor that sends data out | No. It reads your own logged-in MT5 terminal on your PC |
| What if you stop paying? | Access and history can end with the subscription | Your Notion journal stays yours |
| Can it place trades? | Read-only access is typical, but you are trusting the vendor | It is read-only by design; it never places, changes or closes a trade |
An honest note on privacy. Notion is itself a cloud service, so your trades do sit on Notion's servers, in your own workspace, under your own account and token. What AI Trading Journal removes is the extra middleman: there is no separate journal vendor holding your trades and no broker login sent to a website. No tool is risk-free, so protect your accounts, including Notion if you connect it, with a strong password and two-step verification.
