FTMO MT5 trading journal: automatic, saved on your PC
Trade with FTMO on MetaTrader 5? Here is how to journal every trade automatically without giving anyone your firm login.
FTMO’s logo is shown only to identify the broker. We are not affiliated with FTMO.
Journal your FTMO MT5 trades automatically
If your FTMO account runs on MetaTrader 5 for Windows, AI Trading Journal can save every closed trade in your own journal on your PC (with an optional copy in your own Notion workspace) about every 5 minutes. It reads the MT5 terminal on your PC and does not connect to FTMO, so you never give anyone your FTMO login.
What FTMO says about MT5
Facts below are from FTMO's own pages (https://ftmo.com/en/faq/which-platforms-can-i-use-for-trading/), checked on 8 October 2026. Offers change, so check the firm's site for the latest. We are not affiliated with FTMO, and nothing here is a recommendation of it.
- Its FAQ lists MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader and TradingView as platforms for the challenge, verification and FTMO Account stages, chosen in the challenge configurator.
- It says the challenge, verification and FTMO Account are conducted in a demo trading environment that simulates real market conditions.
- It says you can change platform only before a trade has been placed on the account.
- It offers a 14-day free trial, which it lists for MT5 among other platforms.
What that means for your journal
FTMO is a prop firm, not a broker, and your account is simulated. For a journal this means each challenge, verification and funded account is a separate MT5 account with its own rules and its own numbers. Keep them separate and record the firm's limits in your notes.
Journaling tips for FTMO accounts
- Give each stage (challenge, verification, funded) its own Notion database.
- Write the firm's daily loss and maximum loss limits in the Notes for that account, and check them in the firm's own dashboard. The app does not know them.
- Read the firm's rules about third-party software before using any tool. We do not know them and make no claim about them.
- Because the platform cannot be changed after the first trade, decide on MT5 before you trade.
A quick trust check (8 October 2026)
When we looked, Trustpilot showed FTMO with a TrustScore of 4.8 from 54,076 reviews. Trustpilot does not fact-check reviews, reviews are self-selected, and the firm has a paid Trustpilot business subscription, so treat the score as one signal only. In our searches we did not find a warning naming FTMO on the regulators' public lists we searched. Prop firms are not regulated like brokers in most countries, so a missing warning is not proof of safety.
Some countries publish their own warning lists (for example, India's RBI alert list for forex). Check yours, read the firm's terms and the legal entity you would contract with, and never pay more in fees than you can afford to lose. We do not recommend any firm.
Record FTMO's rules in its own words, with the date
Prop firms define their limits in different ways: whether the daily loss is measured from the start-of-day balance or equity, whether the maximum loss is static or trails your profit, and when each resets. Even one firm's pages can describe its models differently, and firms change their rules. So copy the exact limits and definitions for your account from your own dashboard into the Notes for that account, with the date. We do not state any firm's numbers here, because they change and sometimes conflict.
Use the prop firm drawdown calculator and the prop firm risk calculator with your firm's own figures, and read prop firm drawdown rules explained. For logging in, see the prop firm MT5 login guide.
How to set it up
- Install the MT5 terminal on your Windows PC and log in to your FTMO account.
- Install AI Trading Journal, click Add Account and pick your logged-in account. It finds your terminal and account.
- Click Create my journal. The app imports your whole history and keeps it up to date about every 5 minutes.
- Optional: click Connect Notion to keep a copy of the journal in your own Notion workspace.
What each journal entry contains
For every closed position: symbol, direction, volume, open and close time, entry and exit price, stop loss, take profit and profit or loss, plus your own setup, emotion, rating, tags, notes and screenshots, which a sync never overwrites. A daily row shows the day's result, win rate and drawdown.
A weekly review for your FTMO trades
- Which symbols made or lost money this week?
- Which session were most of the losses taken in?
- Did lot size stay inside your plan?
- How many trades would you not take again?
The weekly trading review checklist turns these into a 20-minute routine, and win rate, profit factor and expectancy explained shows how to read the numbers.
Privacy and cost compared with a cloud journal
| Question | Cloud journal | AI Trading Journal |
|---|---|---|
| Where do your trades live? | On the vendor's servers | On your own PC; they do not pass through our servers |
| Does it need your broker login? | Many connect with account login and investor password, or an Expert Advisor that sends data out | No. It reads your own logged-in MT5 terminal on your PC |
| What if you stop paying? | Access and history can end with the subscription | Your Notion journal stays yours |
| Can it place trades? | Read-only access is typical, but you are trusting the vendor | It is read-only by design; it never places, changes or closes a trade |
An honest note on privacy. Notion is itself a cloud service, so your trades do sit on Notion's servers, in your own workspace, under your own account and token. What AI Trading Journal removes is the extra middleman: there is no separate journal vendor holding your trades and no broker login sent to a website. No tool is risk-free, so protect your accounts, including Notion if you connect it, with a strong password and two-step verification.
