TradeZella alternatives for MT5 traders: free, cheaper and local
Why traders look elsewhere, what leaving costs you, and realistic alternatives for each reason, with details read from each vendor's own pages.
We make one of the tools on this page. AI Trading Journal is ours, so we are not a neutral reviewer. Every competitor fact below was read from that company's own pages on 20 October 2026, and anything we could not read is marked 'check their site'. Prices exclude tax, change often and were copied as written, so confirm them before you buy. Nothing here is financial advice.
People search for a TradeZella alternative for a handful of different reasons, and the right alternative depends on which reason is yours. For some it is the price. For others it is that they use MetaTrader 5 and want a simpler way in, or that they would rather not connect a trading account to a website, or that they do not need replay and backtesting and are paying for them. This page goes through the reasons, shows what you would give up by leaving, and lists realistic alternatives for each, including free ones and the one we make.
What TradeZella's own pricing page says
TradeZella's pricing page, read on 20 October 2026, lists three plans:
| Essential | Pro | Ultra | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly billing | $35/month | $59/month | $99/month |
| Yearly billing | $26/month, billed $315 a year | $44/month, billed $531 a year | $74/month, billed $891 a year |
| Active trading accounts | 1 | Up to 50 | Unlimited |
| AI credits a month | 500 | 1,500 | 3,000 |
| Zella Agents (auto-tagging, trade review, market sentiment) | Not included | Included | Included |
| Trade replay | Not included | Included | Included |
| Manual backtesting strategies | 10 | Unlimited | Unlimited |
The page cites 500+ broker and prop firm integrations and mentions no free trial or money-back terms. Its MT5 integration page describes two ways in: a broker sync that asks for the server name, your MT login and your investor password, or an HTML report upload. Why traders look elsewhere
- Price. Over three years, Essential billed yearly comes to $945, Pro to $1,593 and Ultra to $2,673, before tax.
- Account limit. A trader with several accounts needs the plan that allows them, which is a higher price.
- They only want the journal. Replay, backtesting and AI agents are real tools, but not everyone uses them.
- They would rather not connect an account to a website. The broker sync uses an investor password. It is read-only, but it is still a credential held by another company.
- They want it free or offline.
What you would give up by leaving
It is only fair to say what TradeZella has that the alternatives mostly do not: trade replay at one-second precision on the higher plans, backtesting with an AI option, AI agents that tag and review trades, a browser interface that works on any device and a long list of supported brokers. If you use those, an alternative that lacks them will feel like a step down, and you should not leave over price alone. If you do not use them, you are paying for tools you do not touch.
Alternatives, by reason
You want a cheaper subscription with real analysis. TradesViz lists Pro at $19.99 a month, or $14.99 a month billed yearly, and Platinum at $29.99 or $22.49, with an AI coach on Pro. Its free Basic plan lists stocks only, a limit of 3,000 executions a month and one account, so it does not cover forex or CFD trading on MT5. Its MT5 page lists an HTML upload, a direct auto-sync using your investor password, an Expert Advisor and an FTP import, with established auto-sync connections running about once every 24 hours. See our TradesViz comparison. Sources: pricing and MT5 page.
You want one yearly price and a strong psychology angle. Edgewonk's pricing page lists $197 a year, excluding VAT, with a 14-day money-back guarantee and no free trial mentioned. Its import page lists MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 as auto sync. See our Edgewonk comparison. Source: Edgewonk pricing.
You want a free plan and can live with manual upload. Tradervue's MT5 page describes a manual HTML report upload with no auto sync, and it shows a free sign-up and a seven-day trial button. Check its pricing page for the free plan's limits and current prices. See our Tradervue comparison.
You want AI features at a mid price. TraderSync is often mentioned here. We could not read its official pages on 20 October 2026, so check its site for prices and MT5 support. See our TraderSync comparison.
You want it free and do not mind building it yourself. A spreadsheet or a Notion template costs nothing. See the Excel comparison, the free MT5 journal template and the Notion template. The catch is entering trades by hand or importing them yourself.
You want a one-time price and a journal on your own PC. AI Trading Journal, ours, is a Windows app that reads the MT5 terminal already open on your computer, saves one entry per closed position, and adds new closed trades about every 5 minutes while it runs. It costs $19.99 once after a 7-day free trial. It has no replay, no backtesting and no AI coach, supports MT5 only, and does not run on a Mac or a phone. See the full comparison with TradeZella.
Free alternatives: the honest limits
- A spreadsheet is free and flexible, but nothing updates unless you do it.
- A free plan usually limits trades, accounts or instruments. TradesViz's free Basic plan, for example, lists stocks only.
- Open-source journals exist and people ask for them. We have not tested any, and you should read how one stores your data and credentials before you use it.
- MetaTrader 5's own History tab shows results and exports reports, but it is not a journal. See the comparison with MT5's built-in history.
How to move without losing your history
- Your MT5 trade history is the original record, so it does not disappear when you leave a journal. Export an HTML report or use the History tab to keep a copy.
- The notes, tags and screenshots you added in TradeZella are different. Check what its export options allow before you cancel, and copy anything you want to keep.
- When you start in the new tool, import enough history to cover the period you want to compare, and check a few trades against the History tab. Times depend on the broker's server clock, so read MT5 server time explained.
- Run the new tool beside the old one for a week before you cancel.
A worked example (hypothetical)
A trader has three MT5 accounts from two prop firms. TradeZella's Essential plan lists one active account, so they would need Pro, which comes to $531 a year billed yearly, or $1,593 over three years. They do not use replay or backtesting, they trade only on a Windows desktop, and they prefer not to give out investor passwords. Their realistic alternatives are the free trial of a local app that handles several accounts, with one journal for each, and a spreadsheet. They try the local app for seven days, check three trades against the History tab, and decide. Another trader with the same accounts who uses replay every day and reviews on a phone would stay with TradeZella and perhaps compare TradesViz Pro. The same comparison gives two correct answers.
Which one fits which reason
| Your main reason | Look at | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Lower price, still full analysis | TradesViz Pro | Check that the plan covers forex and your accounts. |
| One yearly price, trade psychology | Edgewonk | No free trial listed; read the money-back terms. |
| Free to start | Tradervue free plan, spreadsheet, free trial | Manual uploads and plan limits. |
| No credentials given to a website | A local app | Windows and MT5 only. |
| Replay and AI coaching | Stay with TradeZella, or compare TradesViz Pro | Price and plan limits. |
